The Daylight Computer is a great tool for learning, and with a home screen that you control, you decide what apps your little learner has access to. It will work with just about any app on Android, but some of our favorite apps are:
Khan Kids
- Math, reading, science puzzles, and much more

IXL - Math & Language Skill Practice
Shot 1: The Scratchpad (Handwriting)
- Setup: Open a math problem that requires calculation (addition/multiplication).
- Action: Tap the Pencil/Pen icon (bottom right).
- Action: Use index finger to physically write the math problem in the empty white space (e.g., draw the numbers and solve).
- Action: Type the final answer in the input box and tap Submit.
Shot 2: Video Assistance
- Setup: Open a new Skill card.
- Action: Tap the "Watch a video" button at the top of the card.
- Action: Wait 2 seconds for the video player to slide down and the teacher to appear.
- Action: Tap the Maximize (Full Screen) icon.
- Action: Tap Minimize to return to the question.
Shot 3: The SmartScore Climb
- Setup: Have a question ready to answer. Ensure the "SmartScore" counter is visible on the right.
- Action: Select the Correct answer and tap Submit.
- Action: Hold frame while the SmartScore counter rolls up (e.g., from 89 to 92).
- Action: Tap Next Question.
Shot 4: Error Correction Flow
- Setup: Open any question.
- Action: Intentionally select a Wrong answer and tap Submit.
- Action: Wait for "Sorry, incorrect" banner.
- Action: Slowly scroll down the page.
- Action: Briefly trace a finger under the "Explanation" text to highlight the step-by-step guide.
- Action: Tap "Got it" at the bottom.
Shot 5: The Diagnostic "Arena"
- Setup: Navigate to the main "Assessment" or "Diagnostic" tab.
- Action: Tap the button "Step into the Arena."
- Action: Pause for 1 second on the split-screen view (showing two question choices).
- Action: Tap one of the questions.
- Action: Answer quickly to show the star/levels updating.
DuoABC - Gamified Literacy/Phonics
- Story mode - Lily and Zari are standing in a candy shop
- Word Games
- Works offline
- Lowest level phonics task - drag letter ‘M’ into a word and show animation
- Handwriting mode - Do it wrong once. Intentionally trace outside the lines so the app gently corrects you (showing the "guide" lines reappearing). Then trace it perfectly to trigger the green "Success" animation.
- Can switch between profiles.
- "Tap-to-Hear" Story Mode
- Do a speaking exercise - show that the microphone works.
Starfall - Phonics Games
Shot 1: Reading Text (Zac the Rat)
- Setup: Go to Learn to Read > Row 1 (Zac the Rat).
- Action: Tap the Play button to start the story.
- Action: Allow the narrator to read one full sentence.
- Action: Tap a specific highlighted word (e.g., "Rat") to hear it repeated alone.
- Note: Keep focus sharp to show how crisp the black text looks on the "paper" screen.
Shot 2: Animation Smoothness
- Setup: Go to "It's Fun to Read" > Music (or Motion Songs).
- Action: Select "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes."
- Action: Let the character dance for 5 seconds without touching the screen.
- Note: This highlights that the Daylight tablet handles video/animation smoothly without the lag/ghosting of standard e-readers.
Shot 3: Avatar Builder (Rapid Touch)
- Setup: Go to the "All About Me" section (Avatar creator).
- Action: Tap the Hat or Hair category.
- Action: Rapidly tap 3–4 different styles in a row.
- Action: Pause on the final selection.
Shot 4: High Contrast Geometry
- Setup: Go to Math > Geometry & Measurement.
- Action: Open a shape-matching level (Triangles/Squares).
- Action: Drag a black shape from the bottom and drop it onto the matching silhouette.
- Action: Wait for the "Success" star/checkmark.
Shot 5: The "Sunlight" Test
- Setup: Open the main ABC menu (Alphabet blocks).
- Action: Shine a bright flashlight (or strong lamp) directly onto the screen from the side to simulate sunlight.
- Action: While the light is hitting the screen, tap the letter "A".
- Note: Show that the screen is perfectly readable with zero glare/reflection, unlike a glass iPad screen.
Epic - Digital Library/Reading
Shot 1: The Library Scroll (Refresh Rate)
- Setup: Open the main "For You" or "Explore" tab.
- Action: Perform a fast vertical scroll down the page to show rows of book covers.
- Action: Stop abruptly and tap a book cover.
- Note: This highlights the tablet's high refresh rate (Live Paper), proving it doesn't have the slow, flashing refresh of a standard E-ink device.
Shot 2: "Read-To-Me" (Text Highlighting)
- Setup: Open a book marked with the green "Read To Me" banner.
- Action: Tap the screen to bring up the menu, then tap Play.
- Action: Hold the shot for 5 seconds as the narrator reads and the words highlight on screen.
- Note: Ensure the camera captures the contrast of the highlighted word against the black-and-white text.
Shot 3: Graphic Novel (The "Manga" Look)
- Setup: Open a popular comic/graphic novel (e.g., Big Nate, Cat Ninja, or Garfield).
- Action: Swipe left to turn the page.

- Action: Wait for the dictionary definition box to pop up.
- Action: Tap the Speaker icon in the definition box to hear the pronunciation.
Shot 5: Offline Download (Travel Mode)
- Setup: Open the summary page of a book (before reading it).
- Action: Tap the Download/Cloud icon or the toggle switch for "Read Offline."
- Action: Watch the progress circle fill up or the checkmark appear.
- Note: This is a crucial feature for parents buying tablets for car rides/flights.
Libby Library 2
Shot 1: The "Kids Mode" Filter (Safety)
- Setup: Tap "Search" (magnifying glass) at the bottom.
- Action: Tap the "Explore with Filters" or "Catalog Guides" section.
- Action: Tap "Kids" or "Juvenile".
- Action: Scroll down to show a safe, curated list of kid-friendly book covers (e.g., Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter).
- Note: This proves to parents they won't accidentally see adult thrillers.
Shot 2: Instant Borrow & Open

- Action: Tap "Open Book" immediately after it loads.
- Action: Select "Libby" (This App) if asked where to read.

Shot 3: Typography Flex (Text Size)
- Setup: Open any text-based chapter book.
- Action: Tap the center of the screen to reveal menus.

- Setup: Open an Audiobook (look for the headphones icon).
- Action: Tap the huge Play button (triangle).
- Action: Tap the Moon Icon (Sleep Timer) at the top right.
- Action: Select "End of Chapter".
- Note: This is the "Bedtime Routine" features parents love.
Shot 5: Offline Verification (The "Downloaded" Check)
- Setup: Go to the Shelf tab (Stack of books icon).
- Action: Point to the small Checkmark in a Circle icon next to a book cover.
- Action: Tap the icon to reveal the "Downloaded" status card.
- Note: Confirms the book is ready for the car ride without Wi-Fi.
