First-time setup on macOS
On first launch the app asks for permission to see your screen โ macOS won't let any app do that without you saying so explicitly.
- Screen Capture โ click Open System Settings, find Daylight Link in the list, and turn it on. You'll be asked for your password.
- Network Discovery โ allow Daylight Link to find devices on your local network. This is what lets your DC-1 see your Mac without you typing an address.
- Direct Screen Access โ allow this so your DC-1 acts as a real second display rather than only copying your existing screen.
Daylight Link has no window and no Dock icon. It lives in the menu bar at the top right, near the clock โ so it won't appear when you โ-Tab between apps. If you ever think it isn't running, check the menu bar first.
First-time setup on Windows
Daylight Link installs a display driver so your DC-1 can act as a real second monitor, and a small USB driver for cable connections. Windows may ask you to confirm both during installation โ accept them. They may need administrator permission.
Windows often hides new tray icons. If you can't see the Daylight icon, click the ^ arrow next to the clock to show the hidden ones, then drag it onto the tray so it stays visible.
On your DC-1
View is already installed on your DC-1 โ there's nothing to download for the tablet. Find it in your app list, or search for View.
Two apps, one job: Daylight Link runs on your computer, View runs on your DC-1. Both need to be open at the same time.
Connecting your DC-1
Over a USB-C cable
- Plug the DC-1 into your computer with a USB-C cable.
- Open the View app on the DC-1.
- Tap the USB-C tile. Your screen appears within a few seconds.
Use a data cable. Many USB-C cables are charge-only โ they carry power but no data, and they look identical to ones that work. This is the single most common reason a cable connection does nothing.
On Windows the first connection takes a few extra seconds while the driver attaches. If a driver prompt appears, accept it.
Over Wi-Fi
Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, then open View on the DC-1. Your computer appears in the Computers list by name. Tap it.
If it doesn't appear, connect by address instead:
- On your computer, click the Daylight icon in the menu bar or system tray. It shows an address like
192.168.1.42. - On the DC-1, type that address into the box at the bottom of the Computers screen and tap Connect.
If your computer never shows up: some networks โ offices, hotels, and most guest Wi-Fi โ deliberately stop devices talking to each other. Daylight Link can't work around that. Use a cable, or put both devices on a phone hotspot to check.
Using it
Your DC-1 behaves as a screen for your computer. Your keyboard, trackpad and mouse keep working as normal, and the pointer moves onto the DC-1 as you'd expect.
Because it's a real second display, you can drag windows onto it, and set it as your main display if you'd rather work from it entirely โ System Settings โบ Displays on Mac, Settings โบ System โบ Display on Windows.
To leave, tap the screen on the DC-1 to bring up the bar at the top, and tap Exit.
If the picture stops
The DC-1 shows a panel saying Trying to reconnect. You don't need to do anything โ it keeps trying by itself, and mirroring resumes as soon as your computer is reachable again. That covers the ordinary interruptions: quitting and reopening Daylight Link, unplugging the cable, your computer sleeping and waking, or Wi-Fi dropping for a moment.
If you'd rather not wait, tap Disconnect to go back to the Computers list.
